Rose
Introduced in this page is my very own design of rose. It was inspired by the creations of Gabriel and Ed Chee. Both their roses have very astonishing visual effects and you should definitely search around and try to make those too. As far as I know, this is the only instruction for 160s rose that you can find on the internet. The design is quite tricky because there is too much freedom in the workmanship. You need to really be mindful of the proportion and bubble pressure. Be patient about it and keep trying! After all, it took me a year and a half to master this design and be satisfied with it.
01. You will need a green and a red 160 balloon each, a pump and a pair of scissors. It can be done using 260s but I personally prefer 160s because the finished product is closer to the size of a real rose.
02. Inflate the red 160 to a foot, the green one to half a foot. Tie to one another as shown.
03. Begin with a lock twist with two small bubbles as shown.
04. Make another bubble of the same size and push through the gap between the first two bubbles to form a fat parot twist.
05. First pinch twist. Make sure the bubble is small before you pinch so as to get a pinch which is flat. If you pinch with too much air in the bubble it will turn out to be fat and round. That will make your rose look totally ugly.
06. Second pinch twist.
07. Third pinch twist.
08. Fourth pinch twist. Make a tiny bubble and then pinch it. If your pressure and size is correct, it should curl and fold up as shown in the picture above.
09. Push the red balloon down and lock twist it with the green at the base. You can push the air back and creat a short empty strand in order to do this.
10. Push the green balloon up and lock twist in the same manner.
11. And down again.
12. Begin making the outer layer by squeezing out part of the air from the balloon to achieve a soft effect on the bubbles. Loop it around two of the base bubbles and lock with the green balloon.
13. Make another of such bubble, staggered from the first one.
14. One more, and we are done for the flower petals.
15. Begin making the leaves in the same manner as the outer layer petals.
16. One more bubble.
17. Final bubble. Cut and tie and we’re done!
More photos from different angles are shown below to assist you in attaining better arrangement of the bubbles.
I understand that it is impossible to master this just by reading the tutorial alone. You need to keep trying until you are happy with the arrangement of the petals. This is a tedious process and you may not get it for a very long time. Just take your time and don’t give up, sooner or later you will get it.
Hope you have enjoyed reading this tutorial and found it useful. Thank you and happy twisting!~ ![]()
