Interview With ZaoBao Comma

small_photo1 small_photo2

Earlier this year in January,  I was contactedregarding a personal interview regarding the upcoming valentine’s day special report that she’s put in charge of for Zao Bao Comma, the Chinese Newspaper for students. It was quite a pleasant afternoon jamming then posing with some of my work and sharing with her my understanding of the art. It was published today in the papers today and here’s some sharing.

This is how the print version looks like:

Hearts and Roses

Been wanting to make this since Monday but wasn’t really free until now. The outer heart is a cross weave design, while the inner one is a design by Niko Fric. The rose is my own creation.

Li Sheng’s present for Shiqi

30th June was both my sister’s and Shiqi’s birthday. Li Sheng got this funny looking panda so that we can finally try out the basket idea. Frankly, I feel uncomfortable making baskets because I made one about a year ago and it really sucked, totally embarrassed me. As such I was very careful with the design this time. I tried out some weirdo weaving pattern which I figured out as I twisted.  The overall effect looks quite pleasant ^^ Now I have another presentable piece to show.

The base is made using roundabout weaving to 6 then 12 strands, linear spiral weaving cos I’m lazy to change balloon for every single round. Pinch twist at the top to curve in and add decorative bubbles to finish it up.

Li Sheng’s note (sorry for hijacking your post, just couldn’t help it lol) – The flower which is featured in the previous post was added to the top of the handle of the basket and a clear heart with 2 bears stuffed in it was attached to the middle edge of the basket. Finally, rose petals were sprinkled over the base after the panda was in place, giving a really wonderfully perfect finishing touch to the sculpture. Thanks Wei Lai!

9 Div/Inf Spouse Ensemble at The Chevrons

Went to help out at 9 Div/Inf’s Spouse Ensemble at The Chevrons yesterday and by accident, I developed a new way of arranging my rose. I like the effect a lot.

Chief Yeo’s Wedding

Side View
Simple elegance’s something extremely profound and which I’ve had little success. But I’m quite satisfied with this one. The centre piece displays a pair of baby bears cuddling inside a crystal clear heart.

Top View
The top view shows the array of roses in hexagonal arrangement. This is the part which I couldn’t visualise. The rose is my own creation, after I’ve gotten insights from learning Gabriel’s and Ed’s versions.

Full View
Sideview reveals the haphazardly-done base due to the lack of time, it has a water bomb in it. Quite a pity.

The bride was overjoyed and amazed by the sculpture when I passed it to her. =D

Dinner with Li Sheng & Shiqi

23012009615

I was having dinner yesterday with Li Sheng and Shiqi at Lot 1 last night and since I always gobble down my food more quickly than everybody else, I decided to try out some idea which struck me only quite recently. It involved stuffing 2 flat hearts into a 5 inch crystal clear heart. The first one can be stuffed in very easily using the reverse technique. The second one can be squeezed in using brute force. I only realised that it could be done this way after trying to reverse-stuff both hearts together and failing dozens of times…
