Earlier this year in January,  I was contactedregarding a personal interview regarding the upcoming valentine’s day special report that she’s put in charge of for Zao Bao Comma, the Chinese Newspaper for students. It was quite a pleasant afternoon jamming then posing with some of my work and sharing with her my understanding of the art. It was published today in the papers today and here’s some sharing.

Wanted to make some cool shape out of nothing and it turned out to be the “pumpkin” shape on the top. So I might as well add 2 wheels at the bottom so that I can smoke my way out by calling it the Pumpkin Carriage Bike. For the modern era Cinderella, rides to all clubs, portable and lasts through midnight till day break.

Personally I didn’t contribute much. Notably, I made a pair of fuwa and some teeny weeny bits of decorations. The balloon backdrop was a combined effort of everybody. Was so much fun that night!

This has trained up my skills to refine details, and it comes in handy when I want to add some “wow” factor to my sculptures, which David always stresses in all the balloon sculptures he makes.

For future explorations, I intend to create some sort of storyline using simple sculptures in the future.

I call it the brick heart, cos of the visual resemblence. Done by connecting 3 cubes together and adding a little curve at the top.

Li Sheng got this funny looking panda so that we can finally try out the basket idea. Frankly, I feel uncomfortable making baskets because I made one about a year ago and it really sucked, totally embarrassed me. As such I was very careful with the design this time. I tried out some weirdo weaving pattern which I figured out as I twisted.  The overall effect looks quite pleasant ^^ Now I have another presentable piece to show.

The base is made using roundabout weaving to 6 then 12 strands, linear spiral weaving cos I’m lazy to change balloon for every single round. Pinch twist at the top to curve in and add decorative bubbles to finish it up.

Li Sheng’s note (sorry for hijacking your post, just couldn’t help it lol) – The flower which is featured in the previous post was added to the top of the handle of the basket and a clear heart with 2 bears stuffed in it was attached to the middle edge of the basket. Finally, rose petals were sprinkled over the base after the panda was in place, giving a really wonderfully perfect finishing touch to the sculpture. Thanks Wei Lai!
